Alto Sanitary District is the sewer agency responsible for waste water collection for approximately 1,200 residents in the Alto neighborhood- an unincorporated area of Mill Valley. Alto is located generally in the Sutton Manor/Alto neighborhood just west of the 101 freeway and hillside to the east of the 101 freeway north of Tiburon Boulevard and west of North Knoll Road.
Alto Sanitary District is a governmental Special District. The Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM), of which Alto S.D. is a member, has the sewage treatment responsibility. Alto S.D. also has responsibility for trash collection and recycling for which Mill Valley Refuse Service currently holds the contract.
